Backpack Friends were small stuffed toys that traveled from our second grade classroom in Bakersfield, California, to other classrooms around the world during the 1999-2000 school year. Each Backpack Friend came with a disposable camera and some information about our local area. When they arrived in their host classrooms they sent back E-Mail messages of their adventures. All of the participating classrooms learned about the other Backpack Friends through E-Mail and this web site. For more information you may wish to look at the registration page.

Dear California Class,
We went home and then we did my homework. We played with my Play Station. Then Electron wanted to go outside. So, we went outside. We went down to my neighbor's house. We asked her if she wanted to play. She did. We went in her clubhouse and played with her Nintendo.
