Letter to Parents

Dear Parents and Guardians of 4th grade Students,

Welcome to the start of a new year.  I am excited to be teaching the 4th grade and I am looking forward to a fantastic year with your child.  I hope this letter will help you to know what to expect this year and answer questions you may have.

Expectations and Disciple

Fourth grade is the first year your child will be considered an intermediate student.  The class size is increased from a 20 to 1 ratio to a 30+ to 1 ratio.  Your child is expected to have the discipline and maturity to be in this educational setting and my classroom management policies will be based on the challenges of teaching 30+ students.  I will begin the year by strongly enforcing clearly communicated rules and expectations.  Please note:  at the back of this letter is an outline of the classroom rules, rewards and consequences.  I am requesting that you discuss these items with your child and sign and return the form acknowledging your support in the matter.

Organization

In order for your child to be successful in the 4th grade I will be guiding him/her in developing organizational skills.  I will be providing them with a homework folder (one given out per year).  Your child should bring this daily in a backpack.

Homework

Homework is a required element of learning mandated by the District.  It will be used to reinforce daily assignments. This is the basic rule for homework:

  1. Reading Log sent home on MONDAY--returned Friday (read 20 minutes per night.)
  2. Math and or other-sent home TUESDAY-THURSDAYto be returned next day.
  3. Spellingsent home on FRIDAYto be retuned on the following WEDNESDAY.
  4. Unfinished schoolwork may be also includedto be returned the following day.

ALL HOMEWORK INCLUDING MAKEUP/LATE WORK IS DUE NO LATER THAN FRIDAY

Your child is responsible for any homework not received because of absence.

In addition, a progress report will be sent home on FRIDAY to be returned by Monday with a parent signature acknowledging receipt.

Communication

I would hope that you will feel free to contact me at anytime with concerns or comments.  I encourage emails and check mine regularly throughout the day.  There is a convenient mailbox symbol found on my website page you may use or feel free to email me at creekbaums@bcsd.com. You can also call me before or after school or send a note.

I am looking forward to a rich and fulfilling year teaching your child.
