Franklin's Inventive Mind

Franklin Elementary's after school program entertained the student body this past February 21st, performing the play 'Inventive Mind' based on Benjamin Franklin's biography and directed by Pat Kerley.  It recounts Franklin's life but is re-set as a modern version of 'this is your life'.

Benjamin Franklin was played by Tony A. Perez with his supporting cast David Ceja as Thomas Jefferson, and  Ethan Turner as Titan Leeds, among others.

The cast would like to thank all the people who made this play possible including Principal Tafoya, Mrs. Saldana and the staff of the after school program.

Franklin Elementary is one of 20 schools in the United states to be named a finalist for the NCUST 2008 National Excellence in Urban Education Award.  On January 28th a team of representatives from NCUST visited Franklin Elementary.  During the first week in March the award winners will be announced.  Log on to www.ncust.org for more information about this award.  Congratulations Franklin Falcons!

On Friday, October 8, 2004, the Milken Family Foundation surprised Mrs. Wood by presenting her with the National Educator Award and a check for $25,000. Special guests at the assembly included Deputy Superintendent of the California Department of Education Gavin Payne, football legend Rosey Grier, Superintendent Dr. Fuller, Mayor Harvey Hall, and members of the Bakersfield City School District Board of Education.
