Top Ten Science Fair Tips

  1. Make sure your project is not restricted.  You may be disqualified at the start of the fair.  Check out the RULES WIZARD or check with Mr. Albrecht or Mr. Fromm before you start.
  2. Choose something you're interested in. You'll be working with it for most of the school year.
  3. Don't forget to check out your science textbook in your classroom.  They are full of experiments you can do.
  4. Try to select a challenging project that's neither too hard nor too easy.
  5. Make sure your project is something that can be completed in the time allowed.
  6. Look for materials that are suitable for experiments.
  7. If your topic has many variables that might be tested, identify the one best variable that you will test.
  8. Make sure you are able to get an adequate sample size.
  9. Choose a project that is suitable for your area. Make sure plants or other materials are easily obtained where you live.
  10. Start your log on the first day of your project.  Judges are more impressed with a real log rather than something that was printed up the night before.
